The only thing that has been predictable at the Trokar Duel in the Delta, the Bassmaster Elite Series season-opener, has been the unpredictability. Leaders nearly zero while others zip from the middle of the pack with little explanation. Greg Hackney of Gonzales, La., was the hero Saturday, advancing from eighth to first with a 25-plus pound day, bringing his three-day total to 57 pounds, 5 ounces, enough for a 2-plus pound lead.

Rookie pro Alan Hults of Gautier, Miss., caught a five-bass limit weighing 16 pounds, 14 ounces Saturday to win $50,000 in the FLW Series Eastern Division tournament on Lake Eufaula with a four-day catch of 20 bass weighing 80-2. Hults also received $6,000 for being the Ranger Cup program winner.

After an underwhelming first day of competition, it took some ugly, frigid weather for the California Delta to come alive. But Friday, the fishery showed its true colors at the Trokar Duel in the Delta. Despite the polar-opposite conditions from Thursday, Stephen Browning of Hot Springs, Ark., was able to duplicate his first-day success, landing 20-plus pounds and building his two-day total to 45 pounds, 4 ounces.

Alan Hults of Gautier, Miss., caught a five-bass limit weighing 19 pounds, 5 ounces Friday to widen his lead in the FLW Series Eastern Division tournament on Lake Eufaula. With a three-day catch of 15 bass weighing 63-4, he holds a 3-pound, 2-ounce lead over his closest competitor, Lloyd Pickett Jr. of Bartlett, Tenn., heading into the final day of competition.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Fisheries Service will implement new regulations March 22 addressing pre-season striped bass fishing. These restrictions will be in effect until the April 17 start of the spring trophy season. The regulations are being introduced to address a serious concern over sub-lethal impacts on pre-spawn female striped bass, that are moving up the Chesapeake Bay to their spawning grounds in March and April.
